Take This Sinking Ship and Point It Home

The sinking ship? Me. Home? That would be a return to some normalcy.

Ever since I finished the half, I think I have experienced a bit of situational/seasonal depression. For the past few weeks I have literally had to drag myself out of bed in the morning to get to work. I feel like I have had no energy. I have been eating crap, and I haven’t been working out as regularly as I have. I don’t ever remember a period where I have skipped working out for 5+ days unless I was on vacation. My gym has been closed for the past 2.5 weeks. For someone who goes pretty regularly this was not an easy adjustment. Sure there are other Y’s I could go to, but that would actually require some effort and additional time and when you can hardly pull yourself out of bed in the morning….I’m sure you see where this is going.

What have I realized through all of this? I need the gym and scheduled workouts for normalcy. Last week, when some of my fellow bootcampers and I found out that even though boot camp is outside, since our Y was closed, we couldn’t have a trainer conduct class. So what did we do? A small group of us pooled our exercise equipment and we had our own class. Workouts haven’t been nearly intense, but we have been doing it. Tomorrow should mark the last day of our self-taught boot camp class. And when part of the Y re-opens on Monday, boot camp will resume.

For some reason, this week I have felt amazingly better. Like almost 100% better. And I am pretty sure it has to do with returning to a schedule among a few other things. I have worked out every day this week, except this morning. I have planned and packed my lunches. And I have had a little fun. I went to two concerts this week, both at the Ryman. Last night was a benefit show for Music Saves Mountains. Everything about it was amazing. A cause (saving the Appalachian Mountains from Mountain Top Removal) I am pretty familiar with having lived in West Virginia and artists I love. Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, Dave Matthews, Kathy Mattea, Alison Kraus, and others.

And now it is raining again. However, I feel about 1000X better than I did a week and a half ago. Things are looking up and I have some fun adventures planned in the coming months starting with the Warrior Dash on Sunday!

LOVE! Life is good and it feels good to be back.

I'm so glad you're feeling better sweetie. it's totally normal to go through phases like that but you have pulled yourself out of it just fine! I'm glad you are moving on and feeling happy.
