Giddiness

Last night I was giddy. I was more excited for Bon Iver at the Ryman then I have been for my birthday or Christmas of years past.

The show last night was perfect. I have been anticipating this show for a while. Long before it was announced, I have wanted to see him and it just hasn't worked out. I was nervous about how his sound would translate live. When you have such high hopes for something, disappointment can come fast.

But with his 9 piece band. He. Killed It.

I've said this before, and I will say it again. I am incredibly lucky that The Ryman is my hometown venue. My seats were perfect. The show was perfect. Everything was perfect.

I knew the encore would be special. I apologize for the camera angle and the back light.

Enjoy!

The Best Day

Amazing days just happen. And today was one of them. Things that made my day awesome:

  • My first ever 14 mile run. And I didn't want to collapse at the end.
  • The Diet Coke I bought after the run.
  • A 3.5ish mile hike on the Natchez Trace at Garrison Creek with three of my best friends.
  • Playing cornhole at the Loveless Cafe while waiting for a table.
  • Call ahead seating at the Loveless.
  • Biscuits at the Loveless.
  • Realizing I didn't need to finish my entire meal.
  • But it's ok to finish all of my mac and cheese.
  • A pit stop at the Kroger solely to get a whistle from the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile and realizing they have a game (very similar to cornhole) to win prizes. And we actually did well!
  • An amazing yoga class.
  • Pineapple, ham, and jalapeno pizza shared with friends.
  • And tomorrow? A much needed rest day.

The Mile: Revisited

This morning marked the 5th Tuesday after the initial one mile time trial for summer speed sessions. I wrote about my first ever sub 7 minute mile here. The South (as well as a lot of the US) has been going through a crazy heat wave right now. I have been dreading the time trial for the past 2 days.

I was fulling anticipating doing worse on this mile time trial than the last. 1.75 mile warm up and before I knew it I was running. I started out a little too fast, but in the end my final time was 6:51. 8 second improvement. In this heat I will more than take it.

In other news, I have completed 5 weeks of my marathon training. I am really doing this.

Bon Iver, Bon Iver

It's July. Do you know what that means? BON IVER at the Ryman.

In case you have been under a rock, the new Bon Iver album, Bon Iver, Bon Iver came out a few weeks ago. It's amazing. It's different from some of his other stuff. And I am in love. Hinnom, TX is one of my favorites.

There is even a phenomenon named after him. Top album without a top 40 single.

Maybe I will even post a concert review in a month or two?

Edit:  My favorite radio station DJ from KEXP, John in the Morning, just started his set with Hinnom, TX. It's going to be a good day!
